Clean, Comfortable, and Still Enjoying the Journey

By Jamie, Founder of LA TRAVLA

Let me begin with a confession: I love travelling, but I don’t love wondering how many people have touched the hotel-room remote... or door... or, well, everything.

I notice the tray table. I think about the pillow. I would rather not place my freshly cleansed face on bedding that has welcomed hundreds of travellers before me.

But—and this is important—I still want to enjoy myself.

I don’t believe travel should become an exhausting mission to avoid every germ. We are here to explore, connect and experience the world, not disinfect it into submission. For me, thoughtful travel hygiene is simply about creating a few small layers of comfort and care.

These are the products I reach for to help me feel clean, calm and at home wherever I land.

Start with the surfaces that matter

Before I settle into a plane seat or hotel room, I give the high-touch areas a quick once-over with CleanLIFE surface multi, clean. wipes.

The tray table, armrests, remote control, bedside switches and bathroom counter take less than a minute to wipe. Then I’m finished. I don’t spend the rest of my stay examining the room under forensic lighting.

That one simple ritual lets me relax and move on.

I also keep CleanLIFE body, clean. wipes nearby for the moments when a shower isn’t possible: after a long flight, during a warm transfer or when I simply want to freshen up before arriving somewhere lovely.

There’s something wonderfully restorative about feeling clean after hours in transit.

Clean hands, without the drama

Hand hygiene is one of the simplest ways to take care of yourself while travelling. I carry Dr. Bronner’s Lavender Organic Hand Sanitizer for airports, taxis, public transport and all those moments between handwashing opportunities.

I use it when it makes sense—not every thirty seconds.

The lavender scent also makes the ritual feel a little less clinical. Travel essentials should be effective, but they can still feel considered and beautiful.

My non-negotiable sleep layer

However pristine a hotel may appear, the part of the room I care most about is the pillow.

Your face and hair spend hours in direct contact with it. That is precisely why I created the LA TRAVLA PillowWrap: a personal layer of luxurious silk between you and unfamiliar bedding. My body is in pyjamas so I am not worried about that, my exposed face is another story.

Made from 100% Mulberry 22-momme silk and infused with slow-release silver nanoparticles, the PillowWrap was designed for travellers who want a more comfortable, considered sleep environment without carrying their own full-sized pillowcase everywhere. I wake up on the same surface wherever I am.

It wraps over the hotel pillow, folds into its compact travel pouch and gives me an immediate sense of familiarity. It is one of those small luxuries that changes how a room feels.

I pair it with the LATRAVLA silk sleep mask, especially on overnight flights and in hotel rooms where the curtains never quite meet in the middle. Together, they create a small sleep ritual that tells my body: you may be somewhere new, but it is safe to switch off now.

Never underestimate travel slippers

I love a beautiful hotel, but I still prefer not to walk barefoot across floors shared by countless previous guests.

A pair of foldable travel slippers, tucked neatly into their own pouch, takes up almost no room and gives me an easy barrier between my feet and hotel carpets, bathroom tiles or unfamiliar shower areas.

This isn’t about being fearful. It is simply more comfortable—and infinitely more elegant than hopping across the bathroom on strategically placed towels.

Looking after travel-weary skin

Flights, changing climates and air conditioning can leave my skin feeling thoroughly confused.

I keep Eco by Sonya Super Fruit Essence close for a light, refreshing mist when my skin feels dry or tired. It is a lovely moment of hydration after cleansing and particularly welcome following a long flight.

For areas that need something richer, I reach for TUTTOFARE Holy Grail Tallow Balm. A small amount feels comforting on dry skin exposed to aircraft cabins, cold weather or too much sun.

These little rituals aren’t about maintaining a complicated beauty routine while travelling. They are about helping my skin feel like itself again.

And to keep up with my at-home routine I bring my CurrentBody Skin LED face mask. It is certainly not an essential for every weekend away, but on longer trips it helps me maintain a familiar skincare ritual. Ten quiet minutes with the mask can also be a useful reason to stop, breathe and reset. I just need to remember to take it off before falling asleep with it on the plane, oh boy.

The small wellness essentials in my bag

Travel can disrupt almost everything: meals, sleep, hydration and the routines that normally help us feel well.

My personal travel kit often includes Thorne Zinc Picolinate 15 mg and Gold Nutrition Vitamin C with ascorbic acid. These are part of my own wellness routine rather than a recommendation for everyone; supplements are personal, so it is always worth checking what is appropriate for you with a qualified health professional.

I also pack Argentyn 23 Sinus Relief nasal spray and use it according to its directions. Dry cabin air and changes in climate can make my sinuses feel uncomfortable, so having a familiar product within reach is reassuring.

The aim is never to carry an entire wellness cabinet across the world. It is to identify the small handful of things that genuinely help you feel comfortable and leave the rest at home.

Hygiene should support the adventure

Being hygiene-conscious doesn’t mean being frightened of travel.

It means washing your hands, wiping the tray table, keeping outdoor shoes away from the bed and creating a clean, personal space for sleep. Then it means putting everything away, ordering something delicious and enjoying where you are.

My approach is simple: control the few things that meaningfully improve your comfort, and release the rest.

The world is gloriously imperfect. Travel is unpredictable. Hotel curtains will occasionally be questionable, flights will be delayed and sometimes the only available meal will come from an airport vending machine.

Pack the things that help you feel cared for. Create a few rituals that make unfamiliar places feel more like home. Then get on with the adventure.

Because the point of feeling clean, comfortable and well rested is not to hide from the world.

It is to enjoy more of it.
